Blood is on the Dance Floor

Dear me, I seem to be musical.

Last evening, sitting at my laptop and "working" I heard the door open and was siezed by terror, because I'm the only one who was supposed to be in the house AND I WAS ALREADY INSIDE. It turned out to be the Flatmate, who popped by after work to drop off his laptop and backpack.

He moves himself in today, since all other appendages are already installed, including the TV. Yes, MinCat will now have a TV. God help me.

Contemplating the prospect of living with a Boy, *shudder* I wonder how it will go. He promises faithfully to do things "my way", and poor thing probably thinks current state of disarray is normal - little knowing that when MinCat lives with another person and doesn't have to study for end-term things she is MAD OBSESSIVE about neat and clean common areas.

More worrying however, is how he will handle the salsa in the living room on Saturday mornings, and the doing dishes as waking up ritual, or the constant musical presence. Not to mention eclectic eating habits. How will I handle sharing the study with the TV? What if his friends are annoying?

A male flatmate, a white couch and periods - not a good combination. Little do you men know the stress we go through! Lady Macbeth wlda got the blood off [or is it her that didn't? I never know if I'm thinking Macbeth or Wyrd Sisters] her hands cos boy are we women used to bloodstains. Really, who perpetrates that whole women faint at the sight of blood thing? Can you imagine how much of our lives we'd spend unconscious then? How inconvenient to faint four days a month. hehehehehe.

Of course the Flatmate has a sister, whom he is very close to it seems, so I should be ok. I wonder though, whether to be all Sresht Bharatiya Nari about it and pretend nothing's going on or just go oh god I HATE YOU MOTHERUFCKER YOU DONT HAVE CRAMPS.

I'm here without you baby*

I read three articles, I baked chocolate-chip oatmeal cookies and they are yummy, I laughed in the sunshine, I chased a small fox-like dog down riverside drive for 4 blocks, I figured out the coziest way to study, snuggled up under the fuzzy blue blankie on the loveseat with the sun in my face, I washed the dishes and stacked them, I sorted piles of paper.
And I did it all on my own, without you baby.

I'm here in New York, I live in my warm and sunny apartment, I take long baths in the tub and sway to bossa nova by candlelight. I ride the subway uptown and downtown and tango on the platform.
And I think about you baby, I think about you all the time.

I dance the monkey ballet, I cuddle up under my giant comforter on my red sheets, I open my eyes to the strip of blue sky between the curtains, I lug my groceries up the stairs, I stride through the streets gazing the the skyline.
And I dream about you baby, because you're always on my mind.
I'm here without you baby, but I know that I'll be fine.

A thousand lights that make me older, and still I haven't seen your pretty face

Strange things in the City

wandering the streets of Gotham, lil small town chick like me there are so many things that catch my eye.

  • on friday, walking down 34th street, i saw an unusual couple, even in these "enlightened days": a black black man and a white white girl. holding hands and snuggling into each other as they strode down the street [noone walks, they stride. and yours truly ambles]. they had a friend with them, a white boy. and suddenly, as they walked up to cross Broadway the girl reached out to the white boy and grabbed his hand and suddenly there THEY were snuggling and holding hands. parallel to black black man.
  • in one of my classes, the men have better done eyebrows than the women. only the black women have their eyebrows done.
  • theres two kinds of ponytails, the coloured woman's ponytail, which is scraped back as HARD as possible so that the "pelo malo" looks straight, and the white girl's ponytail, with wisps hanging untidily all over the place. funnily its self identification that decided which. one classmate is bone white but her hair is always in a coloured girl's ponytail. another is as white and lays claim to her "African heritage" but she's always in the white girl's ponytail.
  • the american version of "bloody" is "fucking". huh.
ah the joys of making horrible remakrs like those above

9 o'clock on a Monday

the tea is drunk and one hour has been spent on the computer. i haven't managed to read the headlines yet. however much communication between friends has happened...

... and thus begins the new chapter.
